CELTS was launched in July 2006 and therefore te principle purpose of BGTR has been achieved. The aim of the Bristol Group for Tourism Research is to act as a forum for tourism staff and research students in all UWE faculties and to support and develop high quality tourism research and postgraduate training.

Tourism Studies include all aspects of tourism, from the study of the motives and behaviour of tourists themselves, to the operation of the tourism industry, the impact of tourism on the natural and built environment, as well as the economic impacts of tourism. Tourism Studies also include planning and policy making for tourism and the management of the environmental effects of tourism.

BGTR seeks to promote interdisciplinary research with the aim of developing an integrated understanding of the phenomenon of tourism. In doing so, the Group aims to produce research that will be of use to the industry and policy makers alike.
